He is a lawyer with a long legal career.Bob graduated from Northwestern University School of Law in 1964. He was in the private practice of law in Chicago in the area of labor relations. Admitted to practice in Illinois, Kentucky and the United States Supreme Court.

In 1971, Bob moved to Louisville to work as an attorney with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation. He ultimately became its Vice President & General Counsel and later moved to BATUS Inc., a holding company for B&W, Saks Fifth Avenue, Marshall Fields, Appleton Paper, and Farmers Insurance, where he was Vice President of Law & Corporate Secretary until his retirement in 1990. |
In 1993, Bob un-retired and served Mid-America Bancorp as its Executive Vice President & General Counsel, supervising both the Law and Trust Departments. He retired again in 1998.

Ottenheimer Award presented annually to a Louisvillian whose lifetime achievements reflect a dedication to the pursuit of political reform, civil rights and social justice. "It is the highest honor the Jewish Community of Louisville can bestow and recognizes individuals who have devoted their lives to tikkun olam (the repair of the world), making a real difference in Louisville."
